Dear Families,

親愛的各位家長，

Thank you for your support of RDFIS!Another semester is upon us, students are continuing in many classes, with a few new ones, and all of us have welcomed new students, who come to RDFIS from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Xiamen, and Taiyuan. Welcome—we are glad you have come!

感謝您一直以來對RDFIS的支持!嶄新的一個學(xué)期已經(jīng)到來，同學(xué)們迎接著許多的新課程，我們所有人熱情歡迎來自深圳，香港，廈門和太原等地方的春季新生來到RDFIS。歡迎，我們很高興你來了!

Several teachers have commented about the excellent students they have and those who have joined us! If you have friends whose children might benefit from an RDFIS education, please invite them to consider enrolling (see information about our Open Day below).

We are also pleased to announce that Dr.Tim Allen, pictured here, has rejoined RDFIS’s administration and faculty as a vice principal, public speaking teacher, and U.S. Academic Decathlon coach. Dr.Allen brings over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience from positions in Michigan, Texas, and China. He has taught multiple subjects including ESL/ELL, History, and Physical Education. He has over ten years of experience as an Athletics Director. His doctoral dissertation examined barriers to ELL learning among international school students. When he is not working, Dr. Allen enjoys athletics, travel, and researching topics in education. Welcome back, Dr. Allen!

* Athletic Director Report. RDF Athletics are back in action for the first time in 2019. High school Basketball traveled to SCIE where they faced two formidable squads, but showed grit and determination as both the boys and girls had positive take-aways. The final SISAC match will be Monday, January 14 at Green Oasis. MS Volleyball ispreparing for their first games next week as well. Both boys and girls will compete in two matches hosted at QSI in Shekou Sports Center. Good luck to all teams, and Go Eagles!

* Honor Roll and High Honor Roll. Congratulations to students who earned higher than a 3.75 GPA and are designated on RDF’s Q2 Honor Roll. Also,congratulations to students who earned higher than a 3.85 GPA and are designated on our Q2 High Honor Roll (attached below). On Monday, January 21 inthe evening, we will recognize honor roll recipients, among other awards for their Semester 1 excellence.

* Open Day. RDFIS will have an “Open Day”on January 19. This is an opportunity for prospective students and families to learn about RDFIS, visit the campus, take the entrance examination, and meet the administration and some faculty. If you know someone who might like to comeand see what we offer, please invite them to contact Fiona Lv at 400-806-4123.

* RDFIS開放日。 RDFIS將于1月19日舉辦“開放日”活動。學(xué)生和家庭有機會了解RDFIS，參觀校園，參加入學(xué)考試，并會見行政部門和一些教師。

* FIRST Robotics Team Fundraiser. As you may know,RDFIS has an amazing group of students who want to improve the world through robotics, and they have organized a FIRST Robotics team (see https://www.firstinspires.org/) to deepen their expertise with robotics concepts that can be used in “Deep Space”rover technology. Fourteen team members are performing or presenting at UBTech’s annual party next week and demonstrating robotics in an effort to promote robotics and to show their team spirit. As a team, they are seeking to raise or find sponsorships of 30,000 RMB to travel to Australia for the FIRST regional competition in March. Please see the team’s cause letter below. If you can donate or sponsor, any amount is appreciated and helps. If every RDFIS family donated just 50–100 RMB, the team would quickly meet their goal.
